Mohabbat ki doli sajaanei ka dekha tha sapna
Janazei par phool chadhane aata hei aaj har apna



I had a dream to create a chariot of love
But today my people come with flowers at my grave






Voh jabh tak khawab tha khawab mei ek khushi thi
Aaj toe khushi ka naam bhi na jaanta hei dil apna

Till when it was a dream there was happiness in it
But today my heart doesn't even know what happiness is


Na mukkadar ki kami thi na mohabbat ki kami thi
Kami yeh thi ki bin sochei dekh liya humnei ek sapna


It wasn't the fault of destiny nor was the fault in love
The fault lay in seeing a dream without thinking


Kehtei hei mahobbat dil ko nikkama kar deti hei
Par iss dil ko naya kaam mila har pal tera naam japna


It's said that love makes your heart useless
But my heart got new work - to utter your name every moment


Dur sei dekhna mohabbat ki doli ko, paas na janna
Duwa yahi karo eei doston paas na jaayei isskei koi apna


Watch the chariot of love from far only, don't go near
No one ever may go near it pray for that

Nagmei mere dafn ho chukei hei uss janaazei mein
Phoolon ki mehak bhi abh ban chuki hei kal apna


My poems lie inside my grave now
The fragrance of flowers is the story of yesterday


Na aisa din aayei kabhi ki mar kei pad jaaye jina
Na haal ho kisi ka aisa jaisa haal hua hei apna


May that time never come when someone has to live even after dying
May my tragedy never be repeated with anyone


Mahobbat se nafrat toe kheir koi na kar saka
Par ho sakei toe dur se hi issei aadab kar lena


To hate the feeling of love is impossible for all
But if possible have a look at it from far only


Kafn jal gaya badan jal gaya dhunva bhi bujh gaya
Khaakh se phir bhi dil dhadak raha hei pane ko voh sapna


The shroud has burned, my body has burned and the fire has cooled
Yet from the ashes my heart is crying for that dream

Microfinance In a Spot Of Trouble

I am keen on Microfinance and try to follow related news / articles as much as I can. Last year I had gone on a research project with some fellow students and stayed in villages for about 10 days. From the discussions we had with villagers and MFI operating in those villages, I got a feeling that though there are many MFIs now operating in India, they do not yet have a clear structure or system to operate with. Villagers further showed a tendency to recycle loans, and often waited for the government to waive off loans. Though life style of some of the villagers seemed to have improved, I did not see Microfinance making major impact on their means of income. If income was stagnant, improved lifestyle could mean only one thing - that loan was being used to meet household expenses, and not as working capital. Diwali - should we celebrate it with crackers?

Given an option, I always chose window seat on the flight. reason being, I take childish delight in looking over the scenery, the snow white clouds, the ground where everything is minuscule, and far off objects. Thus it was no wonder that I found myself occupying a window seat on my return flight from Calcutta to Delhi last Tuesday, after having celebrated Diwali at home. Flight from Calcutta to Delhi is especially pleasurable as for a large part of the flight, you can look snow capped peaks of Himalaya jutting out of clouds at a distance. The view, for me, is breathtaking and spellbinding. I also like to look at the ground, whenever there is a break in clouds, and try to figure out farms, towns etc. I have noticed the landscape change over the years, from being pre dominantly green, to predominantly brown - the shade of soil.
